CENTER FOR DEVELOPMENTAL AND HEALTH RESEARCH METHODOLOGY (CDHRM)
Announces
Postdoctoral Research Traineeships

Trainees join the laboratory of an established researcher whose work is funded by NIH at CDHRM, Department of Psychology, University of Virginia. Trainees co-investigate or originate research projects relevant to Developmental and Gerontological research methodology. Trainees are expected to become an independent advanced research specialist especially for multivariate longitudinal data analyses.

The traineeship provides a period free of teaching and other faculty obligations during which the trainee can think, write, participate in the research of an established laboratory, and develop his or her research program with guidance from an experienced researcher. The overarching goal is to provide skills necessary to be successful in the highly competitive arena of scientific merit review for federal research grant funds. The program has a special emphasis on research that is relevant to developmental research methodology, gerontological research methodology, and bio-cognitive dynamics.

Funding:

These traineeships are supported by a Postdoctrate Training Grant awarded to the University of Virginia Center for Developemental and Health Research Methodology. (See NIH Guide for a full description of NIH traineeships and Updated Stipend Amounts.)

Eligibility:

To be considered for these positions, it is our policy that an applicant must be within 10 months of his/her projected start date. We require a letter from the applicant's advisor indicating that all degree requirements, including final corrections on the dissertation manuscript, are expected to be completed within 2 months of the start date specified in the student's application materials. In most cases, this will mean that (1) the applicant's dissertation proposal has been approved at the time the application is submitted, (2) all other writing and oral defense requirements (that is, excluding the dissetation) have been completed at the time of application to the program.

Funding cannot begin until all requirements for the Ph.D. have been met (including post-defense changes in the dissertation manuscript). To quote from the NIH Guide, "Documentation by an authorized official of the degree-granting institution certifying that all degree requirements have been met prior to the beginning date of training is acceptable."
